Danny Wayne Maupin, 72, of Louisville, Kentucky, is remembered for a lifetime defined by faith, family, service and an unwavering commitment to helping others. He passed away on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at the Norton Hosparus Inpatient Care Center in Louisville.
Born July 1, 1949, in Louisville to Lloyd Delbert and Nellie Stevens Maupin, Danny grew up in the city and graduated from Ahrens Trade High School. His connection to his community remained strong throughout his life. He was a devoted member of New Covenant Mission, where he maintained a lifelong membership and served as a former minister.
Faith was an important part of Danny’s identity, but so was his dedication to people beyond the church. He spent more than two decades volunteering with the Salvation Army Portland Boys & Girls Club, where he served as a mentor and coach and supported numerous youth sports teams. He was also a founding member of the Pop Warner Football League and was associated with the United Way and the Eagles.
Danny’s professional career included many years with General Electric. He retired in early 2005 after serving in several positions, including Process Operations. He also served as a shop steward and chief steward for Building 2 and was a member of I.U.E. Local 761.
Family was at the heart of Danny’s life. He married Elaine Bruce on July 12, 1968, at Victory Tabernacle in Louisville, and the couple celebrated 53 years of marriage before his passing. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
Danny is survived by his wife, Elaine; children Lisa Olsen and Seth Maupin; six grandchildren; brothers Donald and Mark Maupin; his beloved companion, Pookie; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. His sons Matthew Wade Maupin and Anthony Wayne “Andy” Maupin preceded him in death.
Away from work and community service, Danny enjoyed the simple pleasures that made life meaningful to him. He was an enthusiastic Kentucky Wildcats fan and loved golfing, fishing, bowling, playing guitar and chess. These interests provided opportunities for friendship, recreation and cherished memories with those around him.
His life reflected a remarkable balance of faith, work, family and community involvement. Whether mentoring young people, serving his church, supporting youth athletics or spending time with his family, Danny consistently found ways to make a difference.
Funeral services were held October 11, 2021, at Evergreen Funeral Home, followed by burial at Evergreen Cemetery and Garden Mausoleums, where he was laid to rest alongside his sons. Memorial contributions were requested for the Kentucky Humane Society.
Danny Wayne Maupin leaves behind a legacy measured not simply by the years he lived, but by the people he encouraged, mentored and loved. His memory continues through his family, friends and the many members of the Louisville community who experienced his kindness and generosity. His devotion to faith, family and service remains a lasting tribute to a life well lived.
