The Georgia community is mourning the loss of Jacob Charles Edwin Rainwater, who passed away at the age of 25. His death has left family members, friends, church members, and those connected to Georgia Tech grieving the loss of a young man whose life was defined by meaningful relationships, faith, education, and a deep connection to the university he proudly supported.
Jacob was a valued member of the Georgia Tech community, having served as an equipment manager during the 2022–23 season. Though his work took place behind the scenes, his presence brought him into the lives of student-athletes, coaches, and staff members, where he became a familiar and respected member of the program. He later graduated from Georgia Tech in 2024, joining the university’s alumni community with the distinction of carrying on a family tradition.
Jacob was a fourth-generation Georgia Tech fan, making his connection to the school especially significant. That longstanding family bond reflected more than an interest in college sports; it represented a tradition shared across generations and a source of pride for Jacob and his family.
Following news of his passing, tributes were shared in his memory. A floral arrangement featuring yellow and white flowers, including mums, Stargazer lilies, roses, and daisies, honored Jacob’s connection to Georgia Tech. A yellow ribbon and straw-filled wrapped wreath completed the tribute, symbolizing the love and remembrance surrounding his family during this difficult time.
The Mansfield Pickers music group also extended heartfelt condolences to Jacob’s parents, Marian Kahler Rainwater and Kevin Rainwater, and their family, offering thoughts and prayers as they navigate their heartbreaking loss.
Funeral arrangements have provided an opportunity for loved ones, friends, members of the Georgia Tech community, and others who knew Jacob to gather and pay their respects. Visitation was scheduled for Tuesday, September 1, 2026, from noon until 8 p.m. at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home in Covington, Georgia. His funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 11 a.m. at the same location.
