Houston Fire Damage Restoration, TX – Smoke, Soot and Water Damage Require Professional Property Recovery

A major fire has severely damaged the historic Falvey’s Sundowner Saloon in Haigslea, Queensland, prompting a large emergency response and leaving members of the local community deeply saddened by the destruction of one of the region’s recognizable landmarks.

Emergency services were called to the Sundowner Saloon on the Warrego Highway at approximately 8:25 a.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2026, after reports of smoke and flames coming from the property. Firefighters arrived to find the iconic country pub engulfed in flames and worked to bring the intense blaze under control. Six fire crews were involved in the response.

The seriousness of the fire led to the evacuation of the hotel and nearby properties. Thick smoke could reportedly be seen from a considerable distance, while police assisted with evacuations as firefighters battled the rapidly spreading flames.

Two people were assessed by paramedics for smoke inhalation, while a man in his 20s was transported to Ipswich Hospital for further treatment. No fatalities have been reported in connection with the blaze in the latest available reports.

The fire caused extensive damage to the historic building, including a partial roof collapse. Firefighters eventually brought the blaze under control, allowing authorities to begin assessing the condition of the structure and surrounding property.

The Sundowner Saloon has deep roots in the Haigslea community. The site has operated as a hotel since 1870, making the landmark an important part of the area’s history. Its distinctive appearance and country-pub atmosphere have made it familiar to locals, travelers and motorists using the Warrego Highway.

For many people, the damage represents more than the loss of a building. Historic pubs often become gathering places where generations of families share meals, celebrations, conversations and memories. The Sundowner Saloon has similarly held a place in the identity of the surrounding community.

The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed. Investigators are expected to examine the property once it is safe to enter and determine what caused the blaze and how it spread so rapidly.

The incident is particularly painful because the Sundowner Saloon has reportedly experienced another major fire in the past. A previous blaze in 2010 caused significant damage following renovation work, making the latest destruction an especially difficult blow for those connected to the historic venue.

The adjacent BP service station also temporarily shut its pumps as a safety precaution during the emergency response.

As Haigslea residents await further information about the future of the damaged property, thoughts remain with the pub’s owners, employees, nearby residents and everyone affected by the devastating fire.

The Sundowner Saloon has stood for generations as part of the local landscape. Although the full extent of the damage will become clearer after structural assessments and investigations, the fire has already marked a heartbreaking moment for a community watching a cherished landmark suffer severe destruction.
